Comparison: Acura TLX vs. Honda Accord

February 17th, 2021

The driving experience has never been better for motorists who are seeking performance and luxury. The 2021 Acura TLX and 2021 Honda Accord are available options, though, drivers will find distinct differences between the two vehicles.

Acura provides an unapparelled level of class and style for motorists. Drivers interested in a vehicle that embodies sophistication, high-performance and a first-class premium sport sedan, will find those qualities when they take the Acura TLX for a test drive at a local dealership.

Before we examine the differences between the two vehicles, lets examine their similarities:

  • Each are classified as four-door sedans with front and rear seats.
  • Both offer some of the same technology features.
  • The Acura TLX and Honda Accord are both staple vehicles for each manufacturer.

While these two automobiles may often be compared by the prospective buyer, the similarities, other than those listed, are few and far between. Acura has made major strides this year with the TLX, reporting that this model year provides the highest level of performance-focused ability that an Acura sedan has ever offered. This is due to an all new platform.

Experience the Power of the Acura TLX

It’s clear that for drivers who want the highest level of satisfaction and the latest amenities, the 2021 Acura TLX is a superb choice.

Kelley Blue Book notes that “Acura has gone all-in with the latest TLX,” due to a redesigned interior, exterior and overall performance package. KBB found that “the result is a laudable and highly recommendable sedan.”

It’s easy to see what sets this luxury automobile apart from the Honda Accord.

For starters, the 2021 Acura TLX features a new kind of power. Acura’s new model introduces a 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter direct injected 272 horsepower VTEC® turbocharged engine, with 280 lb-ft of torque in Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) and All-Wheel Driver (SH-AWD) models. A 3.0-liter engine is even expected in the soon-to-be-released 2021 Acura TLX Type S. Currently, the Honda Accord provides a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine on its standard models and a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder on others, however, both have less horsepower and torque than the TLX.

Other features of the TLX’s Powertrain include an ultra-rigid chassis with a double-wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear suspension, an optional Adaptive Damper system and electro-servo brakes.

Premium Performance Capabilities

Among the most noticeable performance differences between the two vehicles is that the 2021 Acura TLX offers SH-AWD while the 2021 Honda Accord does not. SH-AWD does not come standard, but it is a competitively priced upgrade for many TLX models.

Another key contrast is the TLX’s heart-accelerating 10-speed transmission, which offers complete control over the driving experience. This is a standard feature on all TLX models. The Accord only offers this on trims with a 2.0-liter engine.

Both vehicles provide a range of performance features that influence handling capabilities. Acura has developed the Integrated Dynamics System, offering drivers an extensive selection of drive modes, including a customizable mode. Many luxury and modern vehicles on the road today are also increasing safety features.

For the TLX, engineers have created AcuraWatch™ safety package standard on all TLX models, which includes the Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low-Speed Follow and many other safety and driver assist features.

Maximum Comfort and Style

There is just no level of luxury and sophistication that quite capture the hearts of motorists like an Acura. The Acura TLX and Honda Accord both offer various interior specifications, technology connectivity features, as well as exterior body designs and finishes. Acura has found something truly unique in each of these comfort and style categories.

TLX drivers will find an expert level of craftsmanship when they enter the Acura Precision Cockpit Concept. Full-grain Milano leather, open-poor wood and real aluminum accents are all available. Keyless entry and 12-way power front seats are just a few other perks.

Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ Integrations are standard technology features for all TLX models While the Accord also offers these, Acura advances the interior cabin experience with ELS Studio 3D® Premium Audio and a True Touchpad Interface™ to control the 10.2-inch HD display screen (the Accord’s Display Audio touch screen is only 8 inches).

Finally, the TLX is continuing to advance its exterior style, including a larger body size than in past years, upgraded wheel sizes and the vehicle is lower to the ground than ever before.

High-Class Vehicle at a Value

Not to be unexpected, first-class features and a difference in performance mean two different price points for these vehicles. The 2021 Acura TLX starts at $37,500, while starting price for the 2021 Honda Accord is closer to $25,000. The reason is due to the fact that the TLX is a premium vehicle.

While prospective buyers may compare the two automobiles, the truth is that the TLX is more comparable to high-end Lexus, BMW and Mercedes-Benz vehicles where it beats the competition. Kelley Blue Book says the TLX is “an excellent value among luxury sedans” with price points below many of those comparable competitors.
